In and Out of Edgemont Park
find mesquite on the map and find bike routes I have create for my community, Edgemont Park.
************Safety notes from a long-time resident! When biking to parks in Mesquite!
NEVER EVER EVER EVER WALK ALONE!! Walk in groups!
PLEASE CHECK www.familywatchdog.com to know all of the registered sex offenders in your hood’. Don’t talk to strangers and don’t trust anyone. Don’t go into someone’s house you do not know. Do not ever accept rides. Be careful and get to school.
DO not attempt to recreate during high volume traffic hours.
DO NOT ATTEMPT LEAVING EDGEMONT PARK BY LAKE JUNE GOING LEFT!
Walking to and from school
- Do not walk to school on Hickory Tree. Do anything BUT walk on Hickory Tree. It’s just not safe. There is a lot more traffic coming through Hickory Tree due to beer sales, and the Wal-Mart.
- If you are a student leaving Balch Springs, cross at Hickory Tree to Edgemont Drive, turn left at Narobi and proceed to McWhorter through the student bridge (across the creek) that a nice man had built for you kids. Come home the same way you came.
When trying to leave Edgemont Park to get to the, “OTHER SIDE”
UPDATE!
I talked to the pastor of the Pentecostal Church up North of Bruton and he said we could cut through his church parking lot to get to New Market! HIP! HIP! Hurray! Pictures of route from SpringLake to New Market Bridge!
From the end of McWhorter Park, take a left on SpringLake until you hit the stop sign. Bruton and Springlake

This is the view looking left. Alway look both ways before crossing the street!

Cross Street at Poplar

Take a right onto the alley way, right after the wooden fence

Take a right and follow all the way until….a beautiful sidewalk and church!

Walk or Bike through Church Parking Lot and you will see the PROMISED LAND! The SAFE NEW MARKET BRIDGE AND AFTER THAT the 150 acres of open space and recreation for you to enjoy! Have a great Spring and Summer kids. I love you all!

- Suggested Route: When leaving Edgemont Park use Savage St and go towards Bruton. Cross Bruton and cut up through the church, or the housing community across the street. Proceed with caution. Proceed to New Market, take a right, across New Market Bridge and beautiful sidewalks, parks, trail, and recreation await!
- NOT A SUGGESTED ROUTE if you are alone and under 14. When leaving McWhorter Park to cross Bruton Bridge. Proceed with caution. There are no trails for you at the other side. If you make it to the other side, try to cross the street. Bike or Hike on the left side of Bruton Road until you see a subdivision. If you can make it down a little ways, take a left at Jessica Lane, continue straight, and you will run into Travis Williams Park. Only use this path in the early morning.
- Suggested longer route:A longer route would be to get out of community through Savage. At intersection of Savage and Bruton–proceed with caution while crossing street. Continue straight, walk north on Spring Ridge left at Cedarcrest, continue North until you hit New Market. Take a right. Continue across the bridge until you get to Paschall Park.
Getting to Military Pkway from New Market Bridge:
- When you get to the corner of New Market and the service road..this is a great service road, not frequently used. You can use the shoulder all the way to Military. Newly renovated make this street extremely attractive. Nice pedestrian bridges, nice new sidewalks.
- Take right at Military Pkwy to the new sidewalks. You can get to downtown Mesquite this way to City Lake Park. Time consuming but worth the ride. New Market Bridge is a high point in Mesquite. Great view!
REPORT ANY CAR THAT HAS THEIR CAR PARKED OBSTRUCTING YOUR WAY TO SCHOOL.
- It is illegal in Mesquite to block the sidewalk.
- You can call the police.
- It is against the law and people need to realize!
I will make my own maps here soon.
